Camera in Hand: Picturesque Images of Alberta
March 01, 2005 - March 01, 2007
"Camera in Hand examines a selection of works by artists who have not only developed different methods of photographic reproduction but also portrayed the Alberta landscape in different ways. Photographic processes vary from digital imagery to large format palladium prints. The eight artists in this exhibition have closely observed and travelled throughout Alberta in order to capture a sense of Alberta's beauty in these picturesque photographs. This exhibition was organized to celebrate Alberta's Centennial Year, 2005. The exhibition includes 14 artworks from the AFA collection."

The Sixties: Photography in Question
January 22 - April 24 2005
"The sixties were a decade of questioning and experimentation, of testing the limits and pushing the boundaries of artistic forms. This frenzy of activity resulted in diverse artistic manifestations, including innovations in photography, a medium that was redefined during this period, from a simple practical tool to a recognized art form. The exhibition, The Sixties: Photography in Question, will re-examine the relationship between photography and art, but not in terms of distinctions that force the viewer to ask, Is this photography or is it art? Rather, it will view photography as a dialogue among different disciplines, using the medium's own unique vocabulary."
Michael Semak
May 7 - September 5, 2005
"Like many photographers of the period, Semak used the camera to create purely visual methods of expressing his view of the world. However, he did not set out to capture conventional scenes of beauty, but used the camera to question middle-class society. His style emphasized unusual viewpoints and subject matter, including children, travels through Europe, the Ukraine, and the United States, and such major projects of the 1960s and 70s as Warrendale in Toronto and the Black Diamond Motorcycle Gang."
